The original formula of McCoy's 5A medium is used to meet the cultivation needs of Novikoff Hepatoma cells, and can support unlimited proliferation of Walker 256 cancer cells and various normal and transformed human and rat cells. Iwakata and Grace first improved this medium, and the McCoy's 5A medium in this formula had higher levels of fiber alcohol and glucose, as well as L-glutamine.
